Schoenborn's Jewelry History

In 1905, Matthew Schoenborn of Marytown, Wisconsin, started a small clock repair business on the Schoenborn homestead. He taught himself to repair clocks and watches in addition to raising livestock and working on the family farm. Matt Schoenborn was married to Julia. They had three children: Oscar, Ferdinand and Herbert. On the farm, they sold select watches and clocks as well as repaired them. For forty years the business continued there.

In 1945, Schoenborn’s was moved to Kiel by Bob’s parents, Oscar and Edna. There were seven Schoenborn children that were raised at the stores current location today. Growing up, all of the children assisted in the store. Bob started sizing rings at the young age of 13! They sold jewelry, watches, clocks, cameras, electric razors, movie and slide projectors and giftware. Oscar passed away in 1968 at the age of 53. Edna then continued in the family business working with her children.

Edna and her family took great pride in the business that they had built. Through the years the store had made many great transitions. Inventory changed, prices changed, the building's façade looked a bit different, but since its founding in 1905 the business has remained in the Schoenborn family. In 2002, Edna passed away but the store still continued on with Bob, Lyle and Jackie Schoenborn through 2010.
